PBIS and Cougar Pride are Roaring at Kennedy

What is PBIS? Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports is a framework for teaching and reinforcing school-wide and individual behavioral expectations to maximize student academic engagement and instructional time. What that means is that we teach kids exactly how want them to behave at school. All of our behavioral expectations fit into one of four categories: Be Safe; Be Kind, Be Respectful, or Be Responsible.  Hopefully you have heard or will hear your child using this language at home.  When students are “caught” demonstrating behaviors that are extra safe, kind, respectful, or responsible, they are rewarded through our school-wide incentive program (PBIS Bingo).  If a student demonstrates behavior that is not safe, kind, responsible, or respectful, staff use common language to talk about the behavior and re-teach the expectations.

PBIS Rodeo:  To kick-off our PBIS efforts this year, we spent our first day of school teaching the behavioral expectations for important areas in the school. We expect that taking time in the beginning of the year to teach expectations we will save hours of instructional time throughout  the school year. We have reinforced the expectations and lessons learned during the rodeo during each of three Friday afternoon PBIS assemblies. We’ll continue to reinforce our PBIS efforts through monthly PBIS assemblies and PBIS Bingo.

Kennedy Cougar Pride Song

We love Kennedy.

We are green and gold, it's true.

We are proud of who we are, and we'll share our pride with you.

So listen up!

Here's our motto, This is how we will live each day:

"Be safe, be kind, be responsible, be respectful,"

We are Cougars all the way!  Go Cougars!

As part of our PBIS plan, all students will partcipate in an all-school incentive plan designed to increase socially appropriate, on-task academic time. When a teacher "catches" a student showing exemplary behavior, the student will put his or her name on a BINGO square.  Every week the office will call one or two BINGO squares. If a student has his or her name on a BINGO square that is called, he or she will receive positive recognition. If a classroom gets a BINGO, the whole class will receive positive recognition.
